Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, Deputy Chief of Mission

Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy is the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Washington, D.C.  

As Deputy Chief of Mission, Ms. Al Hashimy is intimately involved with a broad spectrum of issues affecting the UAE-US bilateral relationship, including security relations, trade and economic progress, and social and cultural activities.  

Prior to her role as Deputy Chief of Mission, Ms. Al Hashimy served as Commercial Attaché at the Embassy.  The UAE is the single largest export market for US goods and services in the Middle East, and US exports to the UAE have expanded nearly five-fold from 2000 to 2006.  As Commercial Attaché, she participated in negotiations between the UAE and the United States for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA). With the expiration of US trade promotion authority, a final agreement on an FTA has been deferred until trade promotion authority is renewed by the US Congress.  In addition to trade matters, Ms. Al Hashimy managed exchange programs for academics and business leaders, to help build understanding between the two countries. 

Before coming to the United States, Ms. Al Hashimy worked in the Executive Office of HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. There, her portfolio included economic and social programs for the Emirate of Dubai.

Ms. Al Hashimy completed studies at Tufts University, in Massachusetts, where she earned B.A. degrees in International Relations and French.  She also completed graduate work at Harvard University.
