The UAE commits $10 million to Nuclear Fuel Reserve Proposal
The UAE pledged $10 million towards a fuel bank proposal launched by the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) in 2006. The UAE contribution follows three previous financial donations made by NTI, backed by NTI advisor Warren Buffett, the United States and Norway.  IAEA Director General Mohamed El Baradei said, "I welcome the UAE´s contribution to the establishment of a nuclear fuel reserve under IAEA auspices. This marks another important milestone towards supporting mechanisms for non-discriminatory, non-political assurances of supply of fuel for nuclear power plants."
Bush hosts Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid at Camp David
President Bush host Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum at Camp David in return for the hospitality Bush received in the UAE earlier this year. Among the topics discussed by President Bush and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid were economics, Iran and high oil prices. Gordon Johndroe, President Bush’s national security spokesman, said: “The ruler of Dubai is an important figure in the emirates and an influential figure around the world.”
New UAE Ambassador presents credentials to President Bush
H.E. Yousef Al Otaiba, the new UAE Ambassador to Washington, DC, presented his credentials to President George W. Bush at the White House on Monday, July 28th. “The UAE enjoys a broad and comprehensive relationship with the United States, based on mutual interests,” Ambassador Al Otaiba said after his meeting with President Bush. “I was sent here by President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan with a clear mission: to further strengthen the UAE’s relationship with the United States.”
General Electric wins contract with Emirates Aluminum
General Electric won a contract to supply equipment to power Emirates Aluminum, an aluminum smelter in Abu Dhabi.  "The Middle East is one of the most important growth areas for GE Energy in the world today," Joseph Anis, GE Energy's regional chief executive, said in the statement. GE will use natural gas as feedstock to provide electricity to the smelter plant, which will take aluminum output capacity to 700,000 tons per year, half way to the goal of 1.4 million tons that would make Emirates Aluminum one of the largest in the world.
